This Zoom workshop will run over two days, 2.5 hours each day.

We can meet for coffee 15 minutes before the workshop starts, and we’ll have 15 minutes at the end for any questions and discussion.

The garden pansy is a type of large-flowered hybrid plant cultivated as a garden flower. It is derived by hybridization from several species, particularly Viola tricolor, a wildflower of Europe and western Asia known as Heartsease.

In this workshop we will be studying both the garden pansy and the wild version, Heartsease, looking at their myriad of colours and markings.

Pack contains: PVA alcohol crystals and piece of muslin, Bondaweb, undyed silk velvet and silk satin, pieces of various coloured silk fabric, silk thread, wires, templates and guidelines.

You will also need some basic flower-making equipment:

  • flower-making tools mostly arrow or knife shape and a few ball shapes 5mm, 10mm, 15mm, electric or manual – the somebana spoon tools can be useful but not necessary
  • small pointed sharp scissors and pointed tweezers
  • artist brushes – soft blending brushes and small pointed brushes
  • pencil and pen
  • iron and ironing board
  • small folded up piece of cotton towelling
  • hard pad and medium pad to shape the petals
  • silk dyes
  • small pots / jars to mix dyes, plus an airtight jar to store your PVA fabric stiffener
  • PVA glue or UHU
  • small amount of cornflour
  • pot of water
  • baking paper and kitchen paper
  • plastic sheet
